Served in the Revolutionary War as a Scout, captured by the Shawnee with William White, ransomed to the British at Fort Detroit where he was enslaved for several years.

Married Mary Polly See in 1783 in Hardy Co., VA

Emigrated to Ohio about 1799 where he claimed land and raised his family.

Nine children: Catherine (1788-1838), Michael See (1790-1869), John (1792-1828), Henry (1794- ), George Washington (1797-1865), Margaret (1801-1860), Jesse (1802-1858), Elizabeth (1804-1834), and Sarah (1804-1835)

Headstones are documented as purchased but have not been located. Leonard's farm was near present-day Springboro, Warren Co., OH Location of Leonard Family cemetery is therefore unknown.
