Robert Boulay
Birth: 1630, France
Death: Mar. 24, 1707
Quebec, Canada

BIRTHPLACE: St. Germain de Loise, an ancient country town of Mortagne in Perche, Normandy, about 100 miles west of Paris. He was born to Nicolas Boulle' and Jeanne (L'Escalier). Robert's descendants used both BOULAY and BOULET as a surname.

WIFE: In 1658 he married Françoise Garnier, who is also known as Marie Françoise GRENIER in some records.

IMMIGRATED: Early French colonists to "New France" had difficulty from the Iroquois and petitioned King Louis XIV for additional soldiers and settlers. "La Compagnie des Cent Associes" (The Company of One Hundred Associates) was formed in 1662, and with the promise of incentives and land, soldiers and young families left on two ships: L'Agle D'Or and Saint Jean-Baptiste.

"The crossing was tumultuous and took longer than expected with the result that of the one hundred men...thirty three died from hunger and thirst." From Peter Boucher's statement of Oct. 17, 1663.

A "Robert Boulay" declared himself to be a "Farmer from Mortagne Perche, Parish of Saint-Germain de Loisé" before a notary, Pierre Moreau, in La Rochelle, France on June 23, 1662. (From the Provincial Museum of Quebec) Another record lists: "BOULAY, Robert with wife Françoise GRENIER & daughter Jacqueline departed Loisé 1662. Jette p145."

RESIDENCE: Upon arrival, most of the settlers made homes on the Isle of Orleans. The Boulay family later settled and farmed in St. Thomas de la Pointe a' la Caille in Montmagny, Québec, where Robert died.

CHILDREN: Jacqueline (b. 1658 FRA); Jacques (b. 1663/64 L`Visitation-N`D, Chateau-Richer, Québec); Roy (1665); Jean Baptiste (1667 Ste-Famille, Ile d`Orleans, Québec); Pierre (1667/68 Ste-Famille, Ile d`Orleans); Marie (1670 Ste-Famille, Ile d`Orleans); Martin (1672 Ste-Famille, Ile d`Orleans); Françoise (1674 Ste-Famille, Ile d`Orleans); Paul (1677 Riviere-Du-Sud, Québec); and Jean (1679 Riviere-Du-Sud, Québec).
