He married Faye Dykes on July 18, 1952 in Grosvenor, Texas. He was a retired brick mason. Homer enjoyed playing his guitar and singing at country musicals around the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Scotty Purcell; a son-in-law, Tom Chrane; five brothers-in-law, Lloyd Hill, Jake Sheppard, Bobby Dykes, Dick Dykes and Dick Duncan; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Dooley, Geri Dykes and Jewell Dykes.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Faye Purcell; four children and their spouses, Connie; Vickie and husband, Waymon; Johnny and wife, Kim; and Jeannie and husband, Charles Hubbard; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Brenda and husband,Wes; Rebekah and husband, Diego; Tommy; Lydia and husband, Justin; Corrie; Joanna; Beth; Gidget and husband, Ray; Dawn and husband, Boni; Jesse; Austin; and Amelia; 13 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jake, Collin, Deonna, Michael, Sophia, Katelyn, Theo, Stacy, Alyssa, Shelby, Jordon, and Jerrod; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Lois Purcell; two sisters, Juanita Sheppard and Dorothie Hill; two aunts, Lucille Morgan and Melrose Brown; two brothers-in-law, Tommy and Francis Dykes, and Mike Dooley; two sisters-in-law, Betty Duncan and Pat and Al Allen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
