Louisa was baptised on 22 Oct 1802 at Traquair Parish, Peebles-shire, Scotland, daughter of Louisa Purdie and James Ireland.
Louisa Stewart Ireland married James Vair on 21 Jan 1825 at Melrose, Roxburghshire. James died in 1855 at Sunderland Hall estate in Selkirkshire, where he was employed as head gardener. Louisa emigrated to Ontario in 1856 with three sons and three daughters, including her youngest son Robert who shares this gravesite. Her eldest son William followed in 1868 with his own family, settling in Barrie ON after a brief time in Toronto.
Louisa was my 3xgr-grandmother, and the only ancestor of that generation on my father's side to have lived in Canada. Her direct descendants discovered in Canada number over 160.
