WIFE OF IRA S. SMITH. DADDY AND ADUS MARRIED IN FEB. OF 1955. ADUS WAS SECRETARY TO DR. HALL FOR MANY YEARS. SHE WAS A WONDERFUL COOK. SHE WAS THE MOTHER OF DONNA OLIVER LEWIS AND BILLY JO OLIVER WHO WAS KILLED IN THE KOREAN WAR. SHE WAS A GREAT HELP TO DADDY IN THE MONUMENT BUSINESS THEY HAD AT THEIR HOME ON CRILL AVE. ACROSS THE ROAD FROM OAK HILL CEMETERY. ADUS WAS A MEMBER OF THE ST. JAMES METHODIST CHURCH AND WAS VERY ACTIVE IN ALL THEIR PROJECTS UNTIL HEALTH PROBLEMS LIMITED HER ACTIVITIES.

Adus Johnson Smith, 83, died Thursday at her home following a long illness.
She was born in Lewisberg, Ky., and had lived in Palatka for the past 48 years, coming from Wood River, Ill. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where she had sung in the choir for more than 40 years, taught Sunday School and was active in the Martha Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Ira S. Smith of Palatka; daughter, Donna O. Lewis of Gainesville; two half-sisters, Betty Smith of Peoria, Ariz, and Louise Theos of Chicago; four stepdaughters, Doris Wells of New Braunfels, Texas, Iris Waldock of Interlachen, Marjorie Haddock of Gainesville and Rosa Ellen Sweat of Palatka; 42 grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 10 a.m. today at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Herbert Schimpf and Rev. Larry W. Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill East Cemetery in Palatka.
