Her parents were John and Sarah (Estes/Estus) Huston. John Huston, (Sara's father as mentioned in first sentence of this paragraph) fought in the Revolutionary War. Military records have proven he was born in 1763. His survivors pension application file number is S 35,444. Eight children, including Sarah of this Memorial page, have been documented for her parents. In the order of their birth they are Lydia, John, Samuel, SARAH E.(of this page), Frances Persis, Enoch, Adam, and Hiram. Source: Copy of letter from E.W. Morgan Acting Commissioner to Mrs. R. H. Conant of Augusta Georgia. This letter, which proves his birth date, is located in John Huston's military file. A copy is on this Memorial page.
Sarah married her husband John Hammond in Boston on 7 November 1833. She was listed as Sarah E. "Houston" on her marriage record and also spelling of "Houston" on her death record. Their twelve children in the order of their birth are - John L., Sarah J. F., George Henry, Leaffie A., Martha H., Thomas, Walter, Frederick, Henry, Albert, Juliet and Herbert. Source: Book written by Roland Hammond - History And Genealogy Of The Descendants Of William Hammond - page 92. Roland Hammond had an incorrect marriage date for Sarah and John. NEHGS did a research for me for the correct marriage date and the spelling of her surname (Houston). A copy of NEHGS letter is included in her Memorial pictures.
Two of John and Sarah's children died in 1855. Sarah J. F Hammond (1836 - 1855) of Consumption and Herbert Hammond (1854 - 1855) the youngest child of her parents twelve children. I have yet to find where Sarah J. F.Hammond, Herbert Hammond and Walter H Hammond (1846 - 1847) are buried.
