CLYDE O. SHELTON
……dies today
Clyde O. Shelton, 74, former Sheriff and Texas Ranger, who lived at 1095-20th NE, died Wednesday at 7:10 a.m. at McCuistion Hospital where he had been a patient a few days.
Service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in Fry & Gibbs chapel by Dr. Ed Barcus of First Methodist Church and Dr. James Semple of First Baptist Church.
Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.
Elected constable at Roxton in 1924, Clyde Shelton served eight years and was elected Lamar County sheriff in 1934, being a deputy sheriff from 1938 to 1941, when he became a Texas Ranger. He afterward joined the Liquor Control Board as an inspector, retiring nine years ago.
Son of Joe and Betty (Harwell) Shelton, Clyde Oklan Shelton was born at Pulaski, Tenn., the family moving to Lamar County when he was a child. He attended school at Harmon.
He served in France two years with the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I, and became an active member of the American Legion. His Rabbit Twisters Band, a country string group, was long in demand for local entertainment. He had been a member of the old Exchange Club, a men's service group here.
He married Miss Tommie Farris, June 2, 1918, at Boswell, Okla., and they lived at Roxton until moving to Paris in 1932. His wife survives, besides four children: Mrs. Woodrow Shrum, Mrs. Boyd Westbrook, Joe & Tom Shelton, all of Paris; 10 other descendants, two sisters, Mrs. Toke Brown, Roxton; Mrs. Bill Weaver and a brother C.C. Shelton, Paris, and a half-brother, Ab Reeves, Harmon.

Clyde Shelton married #1 Willie Edwards 18 Dec 1915 and she died 3 Jul 1916 of congestion "pneumonia".
