I found out today that my grandmother passed two days ago, the day after my daughter's 18th birthday. She was very dear to me, helped raise me, and taught me so much. She did so much to help me be the person I am today. I always miss her because we live so far apart, and now that distance is so big and great I don't really know what to think about it.
As a Graver I spend a lot of time building memorials for strangers, in hopes that someday someone who cares about them will find them. So today it is only fitting that I build the memorial for a woman that I love so much.
Rest well, Gramma.
Peggy Joyce (Lyons) Moxley, 80, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away May 16, 2012, in Kansas City, Mo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW Third St., Lee's Summit. Burial to follow in Floral Hills East. Peggy was born May 9, 1932, to Abe and Mary Bell (Purdy) Lyons in Bosworth, Mo. She graduated from Grandview High School in 1949 and married Wesley L. "Bud" Moxley Jr. on Oct. 22 of that same year. Together, they had two children, Joyce Lynn Moxley, born on April 4, 1953, and Wesley L. "Chip" Moxley III, born on June 11, 1955. Peggy worked from age 13 to 80, beginning and ending her career at the W.C. Tingle Company, where she spent more than 25 years. She held sales positions at Avon and Easterling China, drove a school bus for the Raytown School District after starting her family and enjoyed full time employment with Kansas City Power and Light for several years. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Senior Estates.
As Abe and Mary Bell's only child, she maintained a close and loving relationship with her mother for all of her 80 years. Peggy had the most positive outlook her entire life and never knew a stranger. She was truly kind and friendly to every person she ever encountered. Her faith in the goodness of people was unmatched. She was devoted to her little dog, Penny, and could keep any plant alive. Peggy dressed to impress. She loved to get a great deal and beat the slots.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bud, to whom she was married for 56 years, and her father, Avery Lyons. She is survived by her mother, Mary Lyons; her daughter, Joyce Thomas, and husband, Carlton; son, Chip Moxley, and wife, Debra; six grandchildren, Lynn Ashworth, Liza Wall, Lauren Moxley Johnson, Jaye Thomas, Elle Moxley and Jordan Thomas; and great-granddaughter, Moira Yturralde.
