The following is from the Wessington, SD "Times Enterprise" issue of Friday June 14, 1946:
"Caroline Elizabeth James was born in London, England, May 14, 1868, and died in LaJolla, Calif., May 23, 1946, at the age of 78 years and 11 days.
When a small child she came with her family to the United States locating at LaSalle, Ill., where they made their home until 1882 when they came to Wessington.
In 1885 she was married to Clayton N. Woodruff and to this union two sons were born, Norman A. of Wessington and Col. Victor R. of the regular army.
In 1896 Mrs. Woodruff with her husband and two small sons returned to Illinois where they made their home until 1904 when they moved to Wisconsin, and in 1912 returned again to the Wessington vicinity.
In 1920 they went to Isabel, S. Dak., where they remained until the death of Mr. Woodruff, after which Mrs. Woodruff made her home with her son Victor.
She was a member of the Methodist church and the Eastern Star.
Besides her sons she leaves to mourn her passing seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren."
