| Birth: | Mar. 11, 1924 Ciudad Victoria Tamaulipas, Mexico | | Death: | Jun. 13, 2000 Montebello Los Angeles County California, USA | Luis A. Mata emigrated from Mexico to the United States to seek a better life for himself. Luis met Esther Carrillo from Whittier and after a brief courtship, proposed to her on Valentine's day 1958 and were married the very next day in downtown Los Angeles with a traffic cop and a clerk as their witnesses. The Mata's settled in Pico Rivera where they raised their five children: Martha, Luis Jr., Esther, Jaime and Christopher. Seven grandchildren were born during his life: Amanda, Andrea, Adam, Alaina, Matthew, Amber and Victor - he enjoyed and loved them all. Dad worked the majority of his years at the Sterling Electric Motors Co. in Irvine. Dad felt it was his duty to be the sole provider while mom stayed home to tend to the family. Dad loved to take us to Disneyland and drove us each September to Mexico or Texas for month-long vacations. Dad enjoyed gardening, card-playing, swap meets, yard sales, crime related TV shows, Jeopardy, horse racing and cold beer with his life-long friends. In February of 1999 Dad set forth and accomplished a life-long dream - he became an American citizen. Dad succumbed to renal failure at the age of 76, which was brought on by complications from diabetes.
In the most simplest of terms, Mr. Luis A. Mata was a very loving, decent, loyal, honest and hard-working man.
Upon his passing a neighbor summed it up best by stating: "He was a very, very good man".
Yes you were dad, yes you were...
