Donna Lea Shimpfky is my sister. She was a blooming flower nipped in the bud of life. Just 14 years old. Donna was terrified of the up coming surgery that was planned for her. She did not want to go so my Dad promised her he would have a telephone put in her bedroom when she came home. She died during the tonsilectomy. A part of each of us died that day.
It was a cold December day, Friday the 13th, when she died right before Christmas. Christmas was never the same for our family again. We mourned her so deeply and for so long.
Donna Lea was a pretty girl with very blond hair and eyes of brown. She was slender build and about 5' 2" tall. Donna was starting eight grade when our family moved to Broomfield. School was being held in a row of new houses on 1st ave. She made friends easily because in this new school, in this new town, everyone was a new kid. Daddy was Principal of the Jr. High and together they helped pick the name of the mascot and the schools colors. Donna was a cheerleader the year and half she was at BJH. She was also a majorette in the newly formed marching band directed by Daddy. She had many friends, and the turn out at the funeral was a testimony to that. I think the entire community was presant. There couldn't have been anything sadder to happen to a family.
