Whitey Deel
Birth: Aug., 1964
Spokane County
Washington, USA
Death: Nov. 11, 1978

Whitey adopted me in the summer of 1964. My father was on a temporary duty assignment at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. He rented us a house trailer outside of Spokane deep in the woods by a beautiful trout lake. One day while we were driving back to our trailer from town, I saw two little kittens run into the woods from the road. We stopped and were able to catch both kittens, one white and the other one orange. They both were very weak from not eating and being exposed to the elements. The only way I could feed them was with a nose dropper. The orange kitten soon died. The white kitten was able to pull through and I named her Whitey.
Whitey was such a wonderful and loving pet for 14 years. Early in 1978, she came down with ear cancer and died on Veterans Day, 1978.
Even though she has been gone for such a long time, I still think about her a great deal and the precious memories and love that she gave my family and me for so many years.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE, by William N. Britton.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance, her bright eyes are intent. Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
