Joan was also a long-time active member of the Hollywood Underground grave hunting Yahoo group, a valued and beloved contributor since 1998. On September 30, 2004 she wrote to the group the following regarding her burial place:
"I got out of the hospital, my head is not clear yet from them putting me under. By the way, that growth on my liver that they did a biopsy on is NOT cancer. Isn't that wonderful?!! I was so sure I was a goner that I went over to Mt. Olivet
and purchased my funeral. I have had 10 lots there ever since my grandmother (Joan Margaret the first, I am the 2nd, and my great granddaughter is the 3rd.) She gave them to me when I was 16 and I am 82 now."
She is missed and remembered fondly.
Thank you to Allen Wheatley at teafor2.com for supplying the image of Joan's marker, pre-burial.
Special thanks to Hollywood Undergrounder Colleen Tebo for visiting Joan's grave in person in May 2008, taking her flowers and supplying the current photo of her headstone!
