|Birth: ||Jan. 30, 1932|
|Death: ||Jan. 10, 1985|
Dave was the 6th child of Henry Harris Pierce, Sr. and Eva Irene Hanes. Dave was a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War. When he returned from the service he opened a donut & coffee shop on Main Street and Sauk Trail in Richton Park, Illinois. He married Nancy Jean Humble on May 14, 1966. They were never blessed with children. Dave owned a restaurant on Dixie Highway in Homewood for many years and had a catering service.
David and Nancy held the Pierce annual Christmas Eve party at their home from 1967 through Christmas Eve 1991. David and Nancy loved Christmas more than most people. David could out decorate and celebrate all but his two nephews, Bobby Pierce and Robert Lee Logan-Graham (perhaps he fueled the spark within them). David gave Christmas love to all and at least physically brought the family together to share the joy of the season. There was fear the tradition was to end upon his death in 1984; but Nancy continued until her triple bypass surgery in August 1992. In 1994 his nephew, Bobby Pierce and his wife, Beth Ann took over the tradition in their home in Peotone. David and Nancy also held an annual New Year's Day Open House for family and friends. After David's death, Nancy sadly had to stop hosting this event.
Written in memory of David Albert Pierce 1932 - 1985 (by niece, Corky Richards):
" David, David not you of all people a voice cries,
what is the reason, where are the answers to all the whys?
Yesterday you laughted like a clown, roared as if you were a bear,
Often grumbling, complaining; but as is life, you were always there.
Opening your heart and home, sharing with others was no easy task,
Giving of your very soul, what more could anyone have asked?
David, David we are lost in our pain and tears, it is for us we grieve,
only emptiness, a space incomplete, no understanding of why you had to leave.
Once the hurt is gone there will linger memories of the one who dies.
Perhaps we can touch others with what you've given,
all the Christmas Eves, New Year's Days and the 4th of Julys.
David you have earned your place above,
as you leave soaring heavenwardly like a dove,
We gratefully say thanks for the memories, thanks for your love!"
♥♥Thank you to all who stop to learn of my uncle's life. I read all your kind words and appreciate the tokens left to honor his memory. May God Bless each of you.♥♥
