So far as can be determined, there are only two soldiers of the Revolutionary War buried in Clay County. Peter Ledford, the other being Robert (Bob) Henry. Mr. Ledford is buried in the Old Ledford's Chapel Cemetery in the Scrougetown section of Clay County. The old cemetery was below the 1933 foot elevation line of Lake Chatuge and had to be moved in 1941,when the TVA constructed the Dam across the Hiawassee River. The Cemetery was moved just across the road on land owned by the church and where the old church building stood. The building was later damaged by a windstorm and was removed. The grave site remains with a grave marker that says simply that he was a Revolutionary Soldier.
Bob Henry was buried on Tusquittee in an old field near the intersection of the Tusquittee Road and the Cold Branch Road. There are several other burials in this old field plot, which is now the Sanctuary of Peace and is on private land and privately cleaned up and maintained, and is not open to the public. Mr. Henry died in the year of 1863 at the age of 98.
