Joan Marie Maher Parker
Birth: Feb. 24, 1947
Providence
Providence County
Rhode Island, USA
Death: Aug. 25, 1999
Kent County
Rhode Island, USA

Married to a North Carolina sailor, Joannie, who loved to travel, managed to rear three beautiful daughters while moving from base to base.

Having grown up in tiny Rhode Island, she seemed to get her strength from the sea and enjoyed being the dutiful Navy wife.

She adopted our southern love of gardening, and pampered her tomatoes and mounds of flowers. She was intelligent, kind, very talkative and the light of my brother's life. He, the "ladies", and our whole family miss her very much.

Update: June 13th 2006 Joannie's first grandchild was born here in North Carolina. The baby girl, named Lillian (we call her Lily) has her grandmother's long, graceful hands.

Update: Today, April 28th 2009, Violet was born. Joannie's second granddaughter was 20" long and weighed in at 8 lbs.

Our family garden now has two beautiful flowers.

My special thanks to Mr. Paul A Ceresa for taking the photo of Joannie's grave marker.
