Wife of John Edward "Jack" Starrett
"Marjorie Porter "Marge" Starrett, 72, a resident of Edgewater for 32 years and previously of Germany, died of cancer Feb. 24 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Starrett was born in Pierre, S.D., and graduated in 1946 from Anacostia High School.
She retired in 1981 after working in the Candidate Guidance Office at the Naval Academy.
She was of the Episcopal faith and was active at the South County Senior Center. She enjoyed making porcelain dolls, quilting and sewing.
Surviving are her husband, John E. "Jack" Starrett Sr., whom she married in 1948; one son, John E. Starrett Jr. of Middletown, Conn.; one daughter, Joanne Starrett Hogan of Edgewater; her mother, Marjorie Porter of Sarasota, Fla., two sisters, Shirley Porter Becker of Blue Springs, Mo., Patricia Turner of Derby, Kansas; and four grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob M. Porter and the sister of the late Charles E. Porter.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hardesty Funeral HOme, 905 Galesville Road, Galesville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Mayo. Burial will be in Lakemont Cemetery in Davidsonville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, Carr's Wharf Road and Central Avenue, May, MD 21106"
