Patricia A. Turner, 82, of Derby, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita after a lengthy illness. Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Graveside services followed at El Paso Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 4, 1924 in Watertown, S.D., the daughter of Jacob M. and Elizabeth Freeman Porter.
She was married to Lawrence F. Turner on April 13, 1946 in Seattle, Wash.
Graduating from St. Luke's Nursing School in 1945, she joined the Army Cadet Nursing Corps, serving at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colo., where she met her future husband.
She traveled with her husband and children as he served in the Air Force until 1966, when they moved to Derby after his retirement.
She retired as a nurse from The Wichita Clinic after many dedicated years in the pediatric department.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Derby.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; parents; sister, Marjorie Starrett; and brother, Charles Porter.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Linda of Derby; daughters and son-in-law, Audrae A. and Dr. Jerry Mathis of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Kathleen Gearhart of Derby and Mary K. Turner of Wichita; sister, Shirley Becker of Blue Springs, Mo.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and special niece, Joanne Hogan of Maryland.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Derby, Haysville Healthcare Center or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
