Ivan H. "I.H." Ricker, 83, of Chapel Street, Greeneville, died Thursday morning at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Ricker retired from the Greeneville City School System after almost 34 years of service.
He was a longtime member of Bethesda Community Church, where he was "very active in service and in the work of Christ," he family noted. "He attended as long as his health permitted.
"He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed outdoor activities as long as possible.
"He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed by his beloved cat, 'Simba'."
Survivors include his wife of 61 years: Josephine Rohrer Ricker; two daughters and one son-in-law: Sherry and Mike Combs and Rita Tweed; one son: Tony Ricker; five grandchildren and their spouses: Mark and Amy Tweed, Bethany Ricker, Brad Tweed, Tony and Cristy Ricker, and Nicholas and Carla Combs; six great-grandchildren: Courtney Tweed, Victoria Tweed, Bryson Tweed, Daniel Tweed, Marissa Tweed, and Kenna Combs, all of Greene County; one brother and sister-in-law: Franklin and Bonnie Mae Ricker; one sister and brother-in-law: Linda and Hal Lane; two sisters-in-law: Ruby Ricker and Barbara Ricker; a number of friends and extended family members; and a special friend of the family: Terry Reaves, Bethany Ricker's fiancÚ.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Roy V. and Ellen Harrison Ricker; three brothers: James Ricker, Lester Ricker, and Claude Ricker; one sister: Louise Rohrer Ricker; and four infant siblings.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in the funeral home chapel with interment in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The Rev. James Fields and the Rev. Doug Jennings will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Ricker's grandsons and nephews: Gary Ricker, Terry Ricker, Randy Ricker, Tim Lane, and Jimmy Parton, and a cousin: Gene Harrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be his former co-workers of the Greeneville City School System, his church family, friends and neighbors, and his caregivers: Dr. James Rodgers, Dr. Jason Carter, and the caring staff of Amedisys Hospice.
