James Aston Jessop
Birth: Aug. 16, 2002
Tooele County
Utah, USA
Death: Aug. 2, 2007
Tooele County
Utah, USA

Son of Christopher and Mary Jane (Quinney) Jessop. James loved to read and learn, and was intrigued by animals, especially sharks and crocodiles. He loved science and wanted to become an astronaut.

His father, Christopher Jessop, was a computer operator in test support for Mellor Engineering Company, working on Dugway Proving Ground. He resided on Dugway Proving Ground with his family, and Chris was the son of Dellane and Diane Jessop of West Jordan, Utah. Reportedly recently separated from his wife, Mary, Chris and his two children, Mariah (age 3) and James (age 4) had dinner with his brother in Salt Lake City and was returning home to Dugway via State Route 196 (Skull Valley Road), a desolate road between Dugway Proving Ground and Interstate I-80. About 1:30 am, a trucker saw Jessop's SUV on fire at the Pony Express Gas Station, about nine miles from Dugway, and immediately called for help. Dugway Firemen responded, and the bodies of Christopher and his two children were found in the back seat of the SUV, with Chris holding onto his daughter. Police consider it a tragic murder-suicide.
