PROMINENT RESIDENT OF PECONIC DIES
W O Davids Succumbs to Injuries He Sustained While Cutting Down Trees at Nassau Point - Was Director of Suffolk County Agricultural Society for More Than 30 Years

Many friends and acquaintances throughout Suffolk County of William O Davids, well-known farmer, were deeply grieved by the news of his death, which occurred at the Eastern Long Island Hospital at Greenport on Saturday afternoon as a result of the injuries he sustained on the previous Wednesday by being struck by the limb of a falling tree. Mr Davids, his son Alfred and another man were engaged in cutting down trees at Nassau Point when the tragedy occurred. Mr Davids had his leg, collarbone and three ribs broken and his skull was fractured. He was rushed to the hospital and everything that medical skill could devise was done to save his life. He was about 63 years old.

Largely attended funeral services were conducted at the late home of the deceased in Peconic on Tuesday afternoon by the Rev P H Dodd, pastor of the Cutchogue M E church, and the Rev William H Lloyd, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Southold. The deceased is survived by his wife, one son Alfred Davids of Peconic, and one daughter Mrs Frank Strasser of Southold.

Mr Davids was one of best known and one of most highly regarded residents of Southold Town. He was of a very friendly disposition, easily made friends and he enjoyed the highest esteem of all who knew him. He was an honest, upright man and fine type of citizen.

For more than 30 years Mr Davids represented Southold Town on the board of directors of the Suffolk County Agricultural Society and during all that period he was always active in promoting the interests of that organization and was a familiar at the annual fairs held in Riverhead, being superintendent of the curiosities and home manufactures departments in which he took a very keen interest.

Obit was published in The County Review on Jan 16, 1925 pp1&2

It was a family tale that William O was getting hard of hearing and thus did not hear the warning that the tree was coming down.
