Thomas Joseph was born in Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland. He migrated to the United States in 1928. He worked as a longshoreman on the Manhattan docks.
Married Jeanette Helen Lynch, nee Metz. This marrage produced four children: Thomas, Patrica, Helen, and William.
He is the grandfather to Donna, Cathleen Jeanette, Megan, Shannon, Kristen, Thomas, and Kelly. Of these, he only lived to meet Donna.
