FATHER RECEIVES MEDAL FOR SON
The distinguished flying cross posthumously awarded to 1st Lt. Glen R. Feickert was presented to his father, Henry Feickert of 7004 N. Commercial avenue, at a ceremony held in the base lounge of Portland army air base.
Lt. Feickert was awarded the decoration for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on February 27. He displayed leadership, determination and skill in dive-bombing and strafing enemy ground troop gun positions. As element leader, he took over the flight when the flight leader was forced to return to his base because of mechanical trouble. With cool determination and utter disregard for personal danger, the lieutenant made a dive bombing pass and repeated strafing passes at enemy gun positions holding up our ground advance, despite the fact that his plane was severely damaged by enemy fire.

Note: 1st Lt. Glen Richard Feickert was the only child of Henry and Estelle Feickert. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon in 1940.
