Police Officer Bill Evans and Police Officer Brandon Paudert were shot and killed during a vehicle stop.

Officer Evans and Officer Paudert were on Interstate-40 when they pulled over a vehicle with an out-of-state license plate. During the stop, the occupants of the vehicle opened fire. Both Officer Evans and Officer Paudert were fatally wounded in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect fled, and were later located at a nearby store. They were shot and killed in a shootout with members of the Crittenden County Sheriff's Office, in which the County Sheriff and the Chief of Patrol were seriously wounded.

Bill Evans was working with the West Memphis Police Department Drug Interdiction unit.

Evans has two children.

Thomas W. "Bill" Evans, 38, of Crawfordsville, AR was killed in the line of duty on May 20, 2010 while serving as a Police Officer for the City of West Memphis, AR. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 23 at Lehr Arena at West Memphis High School from 5-9 PM. with service on Monday at 2 PM. Interment in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, AR. He leaves to mourn his passing his Fiancee, Sunday Shanks of Crawfordsville, AR, two sons, Thomas Dylan Evans of Crawfordsville, AR, and David Craig Closs of Marion, AR, his mother, Sharon Scott of Batesville, AR, his father Thomas R. "Sonny" Evans of Augusta, AR, three sisters, Angela R. Driver, Joyce Alfaro, both of Turrell, AR, and Shawna Saucier of Southside, AR, two step-sisters, Brittney Neldon and Mellisa Higgs, both of Augusta, AR, two brothers, Jimmy Evans of Crawfordsville, AR, and Andrew St. Clair of Cord, AR and other relatives and friends.
