Benjamin A "B A" Rose
Birth: Mar. 20, 1857
Jefferson County
Missouri, USA
Death: Jan. 5, 1940
Carter County
Missouri, USA

Son of Aaron Rose and Lavina (Ashburn) Rose.
Married 'Rosie' Nancy Priscilla Coe in 1881 at Greenville, MO.
Father of Myrtle, Fred, Virgil, Hallie, and 3 boys that died young (names unknown). All his children, except Virgil, are buried at the Francis cemetery.
B.A.'s middle name is a mystery. Some say he was named after his father "Aaron", a son said "Arnold", his widow said "Arthur", and LDS files have "Amos". He went by "B.A." Death certificate has Arthur.

B.A. had bronchial asthma and spoke in almost a whisper, but he would draw crowds to listen to his stories.

Per MO Death certificate #1951, burial 06/Jan/1940.

After the death of his mother (Lavina Ashburn), about 1860, Benjamin traveled with his father (Aaron Rose) and step brothers aboard the freight wagons which they owned and operated across Missouri into the Indian Nations. When the Civil War began, the family moved to Scott Co., IL, where they lived until about 1872. Benjamin then moved, with some of his siblings and their families, to West Plains, MO, but they soon relocated to Wayne Co., MO. There Benjamin met and married "Rosie" Nancy Priscilla Coe, daughter of John Coe of KY and Elizabeth Virginia Ann Honeycutt of NC, in 1881.
Together the newlyweds homesteaded 50 acres in Highland Township, Oregon Co., MO and purchased adjoining land in Oregon and Howell Co., MO. There they built their home and had eight children...., only four of their children survived to adulthood.
Benjamin Rose was a devout Christian and a Presbyterian until he helped build a non-denominational church, known as the "Victoria Mission", near his farm. He was an efficient farmer and a kindly man. He was deeply respected by all who knew him. Their home was the center of much music, social activity, and unlimited hospitality.
