My Dad~aka Papa
Dad got the nickname Jumping Jack from his father because of a toy that hung in a doorway inside of the house and a baby could sit in it and jump to their hearts content, as Dad got older it became just Jack. He was a good son that loved his parents and always showed them respect. I never heard of Dad getting into very much trouble as a kid or teen.
He graduated from Milby High School in Houston, TX. in 1942. A short time out of school he joined the Army and during WWII was sent to Paris, France. He was a hard worker with a strong work ethic, he was a salesman in the cotton business for almost 20 years, then for Lykes Brothers Steamship Company 15 years. After he retired to Allen, OK. in 1983 he put in 16 years for the Walter Monument Company in Holdenville, OK.
Dad had many family and friends who loved him, but he also had many people who genuinely liked him for the honest and good person he was, he also had a very dry sense of humor. When he met my Mom he fell hard and asked her to marry him a month later, she said yes, they married March 20, 1953 in Houston, they were together 47 years. We still have banana pudding every holiday because it was his favorite.
Pastor H.M. Coker said of Dad at his funeral, "He was a christian gentleman".
He is so loved and missed by all~
