Arthur (Athanasios) George Geranios, 82, was born in Clinton, MA on July 5, 1928 and passed away unexpectedly at home over the Memorial Day weekend 2011, a month shy of his 83rd birthday.
Art was the son of George and Eugenia (Athans) Geranios. He was a graduate of the Clinton High School Class of 1945, and served in the United States Army during World War II and Korea. He attended the Boston School of Practical Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, and made Chicago his home.
Art was a member of the Chicago Cartoonist Studio, animating TV commercials, and his cartoons were published in the Chicago Daily News. He was involved in various community organizations, including the Jazz Institute of Chicago, where he was influential in organizing and promoting numerous summer jazz festivals.
Art was employed as an art director with International Harvester where he animated an award-winning documentary about the employees entitled "A Hero's Life." He then joined Blue Cross/Blue Shield, designing storyboards that led to the advent of HMO and Managed Care Systems.
He loved cats and music and was beloved by his neighbors. He is buried next to his parents and his brother, Pericles, in the family plot.
