Charles Wesley Sixby
Birth: 1840, Canada
Death: Jul. 8, 1882
Yavapai County
Arizona, USA

Rancher. Killed by Apache Indians, along with his partner, Louis O. Houdon. Their bodies were found several days after their death by members of Company L, 3rd US Cavalry, and buried on the ranch on 13 July 1882. Charles W. Sixby was the son of Garret Sixby and Letty M. Brill, born in Canada. He appears on the 1870 Census as a Canadian citizen living in San Luis Abispo, California, and on the 1880 Census living on his ranch in Yavapai County, Arizona. Not much else is known about his life. From an official report by Sergeant Fred Platten, 3rd Cavalry: "They had been dead for several days; probably they were killed soon after they had left the other Sigsby (sic). Both men were naked, lying face up, and bore many marks of the torture inflicted on them before they died. Their feet and hands had been burned. One had a large rock on his stomach. The other had been hacked wide open and his entrails pulled out on the ground."
