Edward Galer Sixby
Birth: 1844
Saint-Armand
Quebec, Canada
Death: May 23, 1880
San Bernardino County
California, USA

Born in St. Armand, Quebec, CA, about 1844, the son of Garret Sixby and Letty Brill. Edward's paternal grandparents were Garret (Gerrit) Sixby of Albany, NY and Mary Miller of Canada. Edward's grandfather was a United Empire Loyalist. He served with Butler's Rangers. Edward was shot and killed at Agua Mansa, San Bernadino County, in a dispute over a racing bet. At the time of Edward's death, he was living in California with his brother, Charles W. Sixby. After Edward's death, Charles moved to Arizona, and joined with another brother, Garret Oliver Sixby, to form the Sixby Ranch. Charles was killed in an Apache Indian attack on the ranch in Pleasant Valley, AZ. (Memorial #6254817) It is believed that the remaining brother, Garret, returned to Canada briefly, but then went back to Arizona where he lived and worked until his death at Gila, Arizona. Place of burial currently unknown.
