Donnie Johns, 40, of Rancho Cucamonga died Oct. 9 at home. Director of the respiratory department of San Gabriel Medical Center, he was a native of Georgia and a Rancho Cucamonga resident five years. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He is survived by a son, Marc Johns of Rancho Cucamonga; two daughters, Dena Johns and Shanon Brorby, both of Rancho Cucamonga; his mother, Iris Johns of Georgia; and his sister, Janice of Georgia. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Draper Chapel. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Draper Mortuary Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Draper Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. (Ontario Daily Report, October 13, 1987)
NOTE: Donnie was in K Co., 3rd Bn., 9th Marines, 1st Marine Division. His unit landed at DaNang, South Vietnam on 08Mar1965, the first combat troops in country. When he returned to the States, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. He did return to Vietnam for a second tour.
