Mindy was born in Detroit to Max (Mechel) And Rose (Korn) Kalb. Graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1934 she went on to become part of the first graduating class of women marines in the Class of 1943 of Camp Lajeune. Her husband, Abe, was in the Army.
She married Abraham Brownston in 1948 and they had two sons. Lifelong members of the Workmen's Circle Center - Arbeter Ring as were both sets of their parents.
Mindy lost her husband Abe in 2010 and did not live to see the anniversary of his death which would have been on May 31st. Instead she joined him.
June 24, 2011 Abe and Mindy were put to rest in a dual military funeral (Army for Abe, Marines for Mindy) at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Michigan.
