LAWRENCE W. "SAM" ALVEY, 62, of 1721 Duncan St., died Tuesday at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in New Albany. He was a retired ironworker, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Portland Post 278 of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, the former Virginia Kuchenbrod; two sons, J. Larry and Danny R. Alvey; a daughter, Linda Kramer; his father, Thomas C. Alvey of Seymour, Ind.; two brothers, John Duncanson of Covington and Carl Alvey of Seymour; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Arch L. Heady Portland Funeral Home, 518 N. 26th St., with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
