Verna Thompson Kimmel
Birth: Jun. 10, 1879
Goodhue County
Minnesota, USA
Death: Aug. 15, 1963
Darke County
Ohio, USA

James and Susie's daughter Verna Thompson was born on June 10, 1879, in Hastings, Goodhue County, Minnesota. She came to Ohio with her parents in 1880, and grew up in Allen Township, Darke County, Ohio. She met a young man named Isaac Nelson Kimmel, son of Jacob Kimmel and Sarah Ann Williamson, at a church event, and the two were married on Thanks-giving Day, November 28, 1900. She nearly died of typhoid fever in the fall of 1901 but managed to pull through. Isaac and Verna had four daughtersó Lucille Mildred, Helen Augusta, Esther Lorainne, and Susannah Hazel. They lived on a farm on the banks of the Wabash River in Darke County, where Verna spent her life tending to her family--sewing most of their clothes, growing and preparing their food, tending their illnesses, sometimes helping in the fields, and, above all, raising her daughters to be honest and hard-working. In 1934, she returned with her mother to Minnesota to visit her relatives and in her old age finally got to realize her dream of going to Florida, where she had always believed only the rich got to visit. Verna died on August 15, 1963, in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio. Never one to be parted from her, her husband Isaac followed only three weeks later on September 4, 1963. Both are buried in Beamsville Cemetery, Richland Township, Darke County, Ohio.
