Isaac Nelson Kimmel was born on July 15, 1878, in Allen Township, Darke County, Ohio, and he lived in Darke County all his life. Although he had been offered a full scholarship to study art in the city, he chose instead to stay at home and marry his true love. On November 28, 1900, Thanksgiving Day, he married twenty-one year old Verna Thompson, daughter of James Thompson and Susanna Jane Whitson, whom he had met one day at a church revivial. In the morning when he came to get her to go to the parsonage in Rossburg, a light snow was falling.which quickly turned into a blizzard just after they were wed. Isaac put the rein lines around the whip socket, pulled the robe up over them to protect their faces, and let the horse take them home. To them were born four daughters between 1902 to 1911: Lucille Mildred, Helen Augusta, Esther Loraine, and Susannah Hazel. Isaac was a farmer on the farm he had grown up on for almost all his life, and he is remembered by his descendants as someone who loved games, plays, music, and reading. He wrote poetry and other various pieces that were often published in the local paper. When Verna died of cancer on August 15, 1963, Isaac was only three weeks in following her. He died of heart trouble on September 4, 1963, in Darke County, Ohio. Both are buried in Beamsville Cemetery, Richland Township, Darke County, Ohio.
