Helen Vitaletti of Peckville died January 23, 2012 at CMC Hospital while surrounded by her family members.
Helen Vitaletti was born in Peckville July 6, 1929. Her parents were late Daniel and Helen O'Dowd Galuardi. Her mother died during the childbirth of Helen and she was raised by the O'Dowd family in Jermyn, especially her Aunts Catherine and Marie. She was always proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed researching her ancestors through several trips to Ireland and by her membership in the NEPA Genealogical Association in Peckville.
She had been married to Americo "Bags" Vitaletti for 63 years. She is survived by her sons James and wife Ellen of Virginia and Dan and wife Kari of New Mexico. Also surviving are Grandchildren James Jr. of Washington DC, Sarah and Maria Vitaletti of Virginia. She had two great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Gemma. Her brother Jack Galuardi of Maryland was always an inspiration to her. Her survivors include her Step Mother Shirley Galuardi of Connecticut, step brothers Tom of Ct, Gerald of Md and Mike of Washington. and several nieces, nephews cousins and many good friends.
Helen graduated from Stamford, CT High School class of 1946 and then returned to the Scranton area. Besides being a homemaker she had been employed as a waitress at several area restaurants and at the family owned National Bakery in Scranton. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Peckville and had served as a CCD teacher for many years.
Helen enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader of travel books and a fan of watching Jeopardy. She will be missed by her Uno club that had been meeting for 25 years.
Helen's family would like to thank Dr. Vanston, nurses and staff of the VNA Hospice at CMC hospital for the kind and compassionate care that was provided in her final days.
Viewing will be at Margotta Funeral home Jessup Wed 4-7 PM A blessing service will be held on Thurs at 10 AM followed by burial at St Francis Cemetary in Eynon.
Helen always said that she preferred to receive one flower when she was alive instead of a bouquet when she was dead. With this in mind it is requested that friends make memorial contributions in her name to Blakely Borough Community Ambulance 500 Academy St. Peckville 18452
