Anthony was the 1st husband of Antoinette, father of Elizabeth, Anna, and Louisa (deceased at 3 mths. of age).
From the stories I heard of grandpa, he was a quiet gentleman who was loved by all of his family and friends, and held in high regards by all who met him.
He was born in Italy. As a young man of 21 years, he traveled to America to help his family back home, and found a new life. He met grandma through a friend's introduction, who happened to be grandma's cousin. She was 16 and he was 25. They "kept company" through adult supervision, and with in 2 years time, they were formally betrothed and then married, 2 years later they began their family.
Grandpa & grandma owned a grocery store where grandpa was the local butcher, and they were always fair in their business dealings. When the great depression hit back in the 1930's, he was very compassonate to his customers and the entire neighorhood writing tabs so people could still feed their families. People were extremely scared and frightened when the government went bust, so giving folks a tab, credit, or accepting I.O.U.'s were unheard of back then, but grandpa was a very kind man who wouldn't permit anyone to go hungry just for the almighty dollar.
He never did return to Italy, not even for a visit, at least not that I know of. He found his happiness and heart right here on U.S. soil. Unfortunately he passed away too soon from illness. Spiral menigitis had no cure back in those days. There were many who loved him, many who admired him, and many who missed him and still do.
I want to thank r77ortiz for sponcering my grandfather's memorial page. Your example is a wonderful lesson in compassion. Thank you ever so much. I bid you GOD's blessings.
