Marguerite Mary Derby, the fourth child of Euphemia and John Derby was born in Bevier, Missouri. She attended the Kansas Teachers College and was a school teacher in Frontenac, Kansas. In 1920, when the family moved to Kansas City, she was a secretary at Manual High School. Between 1937 and 1940, Marguerite and her sister Euphemia had a small tea room in San Francisco. During WWII she returned to the Midwest and worked with her sister Sarah at a company that made landing barges. She returned to California in 1946 after the war. She worked for Baldwin Wheels and for a beer distributing company. She had breast cancer and had to retire on disability. - Written by her great-niece Kristine Cerone
