"WHITE, Karen Margaret - passed away peacefully on September 11, 2011 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. She was born and grew up in Flint, and graduated with honors from the University of Michigan-Flint. She had a 30-year career in Information Technology, most of it in Ann Arbor at the U of M Hospitals and U of M Main Campus, from which she retired in 2008. Karen was a talented ballroom dancer who volunteered many hours of service to the Ballroom Dance Club at U of M, producing weekend workshops and showcases, and helping to teach beginning dance classes. From 2000-2008, Karen enjoyed many sailing adventures on the Great Lakes, crewing on racing sloops with Ken Brown and others. Karen lived a full life. She was interested and curious in many areas of study, engaging her friends in them along the way. She was also a long-time blood donor to the American Red Cross. She is survived by her mother, Marjorie (Richard) Ayotte, her brother, Brian White, sister, Laurie (Craig) Powell, step-brother, Steven (Denise) Ayotte, their son, Austin, niece, Heather (Matthew) Zielke, their son, Graham, niece Lindsay Ayotte, aunt Marion Rodgers, uncles, Richard, James and Donald Simpson. Services for Karen were private at her request, with burial at The Preserve, All Saints Cemetery, in Waterford. In lieu of donations or flowers, please plant a tree or lilac bush in Karen's honor. Karen was loved and nurtured by close, steady friends, among them Rich Hausman, who was with her during her final illness."
