Daniel Edward Manix passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was 49 years old.
He was born on October 28, 1957 in McAllen, Texas to Daniel O'Keefe Manix and Glenda May Newell.
Dan, one of triplet brothers, grew up in Rio Hondo, Texas graduating from Rio Hondo High School in 1976. After high school, He attended Southwest Texas University in San Marcos where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice.
Dan and his brothers, Dennis Newell Manix and David William Manix, began their life of public service early by serving on the Rio Hondo Volunteer Fire Department. After graduating from college, Dan served as a police officer in Bishop, Texas for six years. He eventually joined the Texas Department of Public Safety as a state trooper and was stationed in Austin, Harlingen and Fredricksburg, Texas. Dan served with the DPS for 16 years before taking medical retirement.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter Debora Kay Manix, sisters Marsha Lea Marchbanks, Cheryl Ann (Ray) Bailey of Harlingen, brothers Dennis of Corpus Christi and David from Rio Hondo. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
I worked with Dan for several years. He was a hard worker and very much dedicated to the law enforcement profession. I was proud to call Dan my friend.
