Rev. Curtis Armstrong
REV. CURTIS "MICKEY" ARMSTRONG, 79, of Carmack, Mississippi, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
Rev. Armstrong was born to J.C. Armstrong and Lorene Butler Armstrong. He was reared by his maternal grandparents, Artie and Ella Mae Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his sister, Carolyn McGehee.
Rev. Armstrong pastored at Hebron Baptist Church in Montgomery County over 25 years and at Sand Hill Baptist Church in Attala County for 15 years. Along with pastoring, he taught school and coached in Carroll and Attala Counties. He often felt he reached as many people in the classroom and on the athletic field as he did in the pulpit.
Rev. Armstrong liked to tell the story of how he did not know his real name, the alphabet or numbers when he entered first grade, but when he finished his Master's degree at Mississippi State he was offered a fellowship to work on a new alphabet.
He was the loving husband of Carolyn Palmertree Armstrong for nearly fifty-one years. He is survived by one son, Curtis Duane Armstrong of Picayune; one daughter, Sonya Armstrong Whitfield and her husband Jim of Indianola; one sister, Fay Bingham of Carmack; and four brothers, T.A., Ronnie and Kyle of Carmack, and Jerry of Sallis. He is survived by five grandchildren, Mikayla, Jay, Kellie and Reed Terrell and Jay Whitfield.
