Lawrencetown loses another aged Resident -

Elijah Phinney, an aged and well known resident of Lawrencetown, passed away on Saturday last from the effects of a stroke of paralysis, which occurred some few weeks ago, since which time he has been a severe sufferer. The deceased was born Nov. 30th, 1819, and has spent nearly his entire life in that vicinity. On March 11th, 1841, he married Mary E., daughter of the late Abner Foster, who still survives, and who is the mother of seven living sons, among the number being N.H., C.W., and Timothy Phinney, Esqrs, together with some twenty grandchildren. For many years Mr. Phinney was one of the popular mail couriers of the county, having a number of routes, the most prominent of them being that between Lawrencetown and Bridgewater. Of a robust and strong constitution, he battled all weathers in the punctual performance of his public duties with such regularity as to win the friendship of all inhabitants living along the highways over which he travelled, and there are few men living to-day who have not heard of some of the many hardships he endured while in Her Majesty’s service as mail courier. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from his late residence and was largely attended. The Rev. R.D. Porter conducted the services, and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Paradise.
