Mae Anderson, 84, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008 at Lubbock Heart Hospital.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. today (Sunday, April 6, 2008) at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Bacon officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mae Anderson was born June 11, 1923 in Garner, Texas to James Walter and Eunice Irma (Gaylord) Broomfield. She attended elementary school in Mineral Wells, Texas and graduated high school there. Mae went on to college in Denton, Texas at Texas State Teachers College. After raising her four children she went back to college in 1961 in Arkadelphia, Ark. graduating with a degree in elementary education. They moved to Carlsbad in 1963. She joined First Baptist Church that same year along with her four children. She taught school in Otis for nine years and Joe Stanley Smith Elementary School for 15 years. She retired from teaching in 1987. Mae was a true artist and silversmith. She was a member of Roadrunner Gem & Mineral Club, Retired Teachers Assoc., and participated in Calico Christmas for many years. Mae loved to travel with her grandchildren taking them from New York to Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irving "Andy" Anderson and two brothers Lamar Broomfield and James Walter Broomfield.
Survivors include: One son, James Handy and wife Anita of Carlsbad; three daughters: Linda Hicks and husband Moon Mullins of Carlsbad, Jean Burgin of Fort Benning, Ga., and Liz Roush of Lubbock; one sister: Merle Taylor and husband Neil of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren: Melissa Thompson and husband Michael of Aledo, Texas, Tracy Newton and husband Kyle of Lubbock, Brian Wright and wife Erika of Carlsbad, Rebecca Wilson and husband Todd of Fort Benning, Ga., Lucas Roush of Lubbock, Sarah Roush of Lubbock, Tammy of Carlsbad and Eva of Tyler, Texas; 16 great-grandchildren: Dustin Newton, Colton Gregory, Lexie Wright, Megan Thompson, Mariah Newton, Austin Wilson, Mikayla Thompson, Jordan Wilson, Chelsey Wright, and Heather, Tina, Ashley, Hillary, James, Lisa and Jeremy.
