Hayne was an retired Rear-Admiral in the United States Navy. He served in the Spanish American War and World War I.
He was married to Sallie A. Long on December 17, 1904 at the First Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. It was said to be the first naval wedding in Kansas City.
Their five children were:

Long, b. 1920
Hayne and his family lived in San Marino, California following his retirement after years of naval service.
His parents were Hayne and Ida Lamar Ellis.
He died at Longview Farm at the home of his sister-in-law and her husband, Loula and Pryor Combs.
