Obituary from Newspaper:
Elmer "Bud" Duane Baker

Elmer Duane "Bud" Baker passed away at home with his family in Orick on September 10, 2003 at the age of 69. He was a native of Lansing, Michigan.
Bud worked in sawmills all his life. He enjoyed walking on the beach, picking up agates, looking for treasures that other people had left behind, and fishing with family.
He loved to scratch lottery tickets. On his 69th birthday, his family purchased 69 tickets for him to scratch. He enjoyed making animals out of rocks especially turtles. He taught his grandson, Steven Baker how to make them, so the tradition will stay alive.
Dad taught his sons to always fix things themselves. He believed this way, you knew it would be done right and would add with a chuckle, you could save a buck too. He raised his boys to be responsible and hardworking individuals. He loved telling silly jokes and stories to everyone who crossed his path.
He treasured his 8 grandchildren with all his heart, but held a special place in his heart for his only granddaughter, Sarah Baker.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis Duane Baker and wife Carmen, and Rodney Allen Baker and wife Edie, his daughter Lynn Rice and husband Ron. Brothers Eugene "Red" Baker, Harold Baker and wife Rita,Herman Baker and wife Marsha, and Homer "Pete" Baker and wife Rose, sister Evelyn Smith and husband Clarence, Grandchildren Dustin Rice, Bryan Rice, Douglas Rice, Sarah Baker, Anthony Baker, Daniel Baker,Steven Baker,Christopher Baker and Austin Baker.

Bud married Gearl Dee Gossien 04 Feb 1956 in Nevada.
He worked in many Sawmills in Humboldt County including Bull Creek, Myers Flat, Redcrest, & Orick where he retired. He was always a very hard worker.
Him and his family enjoyed collecting rocks off the beachs and Bud enjoyed making little turtles and many other things with the rocks and stones.
Bud loved to tell jokes, you never saw Bud without hearing a joke.

Bud died of lung cancer at 69 years, 1 month, & 1 day old.
