Addie M. Burdette

Addie M. Burdette, born May 15, 1911, Bessemer, Ala., died July 27, 2004, in Los Alamos. Addie was the seventh of 12 children of Walter and Gertrude Chapman. She leaves three children: Robert A. Burdett Jr., Abernant, AL; Mary Bowen, Los Alamos; and Sue King, Birmingham; four granddaughters; three sisters: Ruth Smith, Bessemer, AL; Johnnie Rutland, Hueytown, AL; and Ida Lawson, Beaumont, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In 1991, she came to visit Mary in Los Alamos, for two weeks. That may be the longest 2 weeks on record! It just ended.

Addie was a genuine people person. She accepted people for who they were, respected others, and always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. Addie loved to laugh. Her sense of humor, quick wit, and loving way drew people to her as if she were a giant magnet.

Addie had an uncanny ability to put things into perspective and she was relentless in setting the example for us to be kind to each other. She taught us to shake hands to bind a contract, to give thanks for a rainy day, and that in order to know right from wrong, you must listen to the other side before making a judgment.

We will miss Addie-her sense of humor, unsurpassed wit, our working, laughing, and being together. We will certainly miss her sage advice, as most of need that. She was the best friend and buddy possible. Internment will be at the Highland Memorial Gardens, Bessemer, Alabama.

Addie was a participant in The Day Out program for 9 years. In lieu of flower, donations may be made to the The Day Out, 1000 Oppenheimer Drive, Los Alamos, NM 87544

A celebration of Addie's life will be held at Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 2323 Diamond Drive.
