Mr. Axt was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Lincoln, Neb., where he was raised. He married Alvina Krause on Feb. 3, 1940, in Scottsbluff, Neb., and moved to Portland the next year. He was an Army sergeant stationed in Alaska during World War II.
He worked as a welder at Oregon Steel Mills for 27 years before retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Steelworkers union and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Survivors besides his wife include a daughter; a son; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
