Funeral services for Monroe Alford, 66, farmer residing 2 1-2 miles northwest of Hayti, were held Sunday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock at the home of a daughter in Hayti, with the Rev. D.K. Foster, pastor of the Caruthersville Baptist Church, conducting the services. Interment was in Little Prairie cemetery, with LaForge service.
Mr. Alford was born Nov. 21, 1876, at Trenton, Tenn., the son of Tom and Martha Alford. He succumbed May 15th at his farm home. He had resided in Pemiscot County for 34 years, and was well known in this vicinity.
He was first married in his early twenties to Minnie Milligan, and to this union was born three children, one of whom survives, Jesse Alford, of Hughes, Ark.
He was later married to Mollie Young, and to this union was born eight children, seven of whom survive. They are Mrs. Frank Bell, Hayti; Mrs. Gerald Johnson, Deering; Mrs. Harvey Jones, Netherlands; Mrs. C.W. Stout, Perkins; William Alford, Deering; Albert Alford, Hayti; and Miss Martha Alford, who resides at the home.
Also surviving are 31 grand children, one, Ray Bell, being with the armed forces in Australia. Five great grandchildren also survive, as does one brother, Frank Alford, of Caruthersville.
