Her parents were Joshua Perry Tatum, son of Howell Tatum, and Joshua's wife Sarah Elizabeth Vardeman. Howell Tatum settled on this plantation sometime prior to his death in 1835 when he was the first one interred in the family cemetery on the place.
Eliza Tatum's tombstone was read in 1975 as giving the birthdate April 21, 1838 while a Tatum family history says "Elizabeth 'Eliza' Tatum" and gives the date April 16, 1838 and no date of death except to say "She may be buried in Talladega County."
Joshua Perry Tatum sold the farm in 1839 to Zachariah A. Edwards (ref., Sylacauga News, Sept. 11, 1975, p.1C).
