George Augustus Butterfield was the son of Loderick and Sarah Wheeler Butterfield. He was born in Dickinson, Franklin Co., NY where his father was a merchant. The family later moved to Michigan. He married Nancy Jane Crabel January 1, 1855 in Clay, St. Clair Michigan. They were parents of : Nora (Reid Taylor), John (Abby Miller), Duane, Belle, Garrett and Norman Butterfield. George was elected Mayor of Alpena Michigan in 1880 and served 2 years. They moved from Michigan to Great Falls Montana in 1908 with the Taylor family. George and his son in law Reid Taylor were in the lumber and ranching business. George and his wife Nancy are at rest in Highland Cemetery.
