Spec. 4/C, U.S. Army, Vietnam War-Spec. Rhodes was killed in action in the area of Cu Chi, South Vietnam on 1-31-1968 while serving with Troop C of the 3rd Squadron of the 4th Cavalry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division. Spec. Rhodes started his tour in Vietnam on March 22, 1967.

He is the son of Mr. Lyman & Mrs. Gladys {Junkins} Rhodes of Eureka, Illinois, and is a 1962 graduate of Eureka H.S., and a 1966 graduate of Missouri State Teachers College at Kirksville, Missouri. Spec. Rhodes entered the Army a short time later on September 6, 1966. He leaves one brother, Carl of Eureka, and one half brother Lowell Rhodes, and a half-sister, Mrs. Robert Cervenka, both of Pontiac, Michigan.

Awards: Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal.
